Happy FTPing

Q: What are the minimum requirements for my FTP Server / Web Site?
A: The Dynamic FTP System is approximately 0.5 MB to download and takes approximately 2 MB of hard drive space on your server. We do recomment that you have at least 100 MB of free hard drive space on your server for light use. Please make sure you have at least 2 GB of server space if you are planning on transfering ten 200 MB files at a time. Feel free to contact us in regards to server space and hosting.

Q: I lost my e-mail with the user name and password. Can the FTP program send me another one?
A: The Admin/Owner can look up your user name but in order to reset the password the Admin needs to delete and recreate the user account. We are working on a forgotten password feature for the next version.

Q: Are my files secure when I transfer them via the Dynamic FTP System program?
A: Our standard installation of the Dynamic FTP System program is as "secure" as e-mail. We can set the program with 128-bit SSL encryption for your uploads and downloads. A SSL Certificate is also recommended for the FTP program to transfer large medical images / files, legal documents, and anything else that requires extra security. Please contact us for a free custom program quote.

Q: How do I change my e-mail address in the FTP program user account?
A: The Admin needs to delte and recreate the account. We are working on this feature for the next update.

Q: Why do I get a message “file too large” when I attempt to upload it to the FTP program?
A: The system administrator controls which files are allowed and the maximum file size in the FTP program. It might be a restriction of your ISP if it has been set to “unlimited” in the FTP program administrator’s control panel. Also note that most web browsers are currently limited to 2 GB of data transfer.

Q: Why did some of the files in my FTP program user account disappear?
A: The FTP program system administrator might have deleted the file after he or she received the e-mail notification that you downloaded it. This is usually done to save hard drive space on the FTP server or to keep updated files in the program's user account.

Q: I started to upload a file to the FTP program and then surfed the Internet while I was uploading. When I looked for the file in the Dynamic FTP System program's user account it was nowhere to be found.
A: You need to keep your browser window on the Dynamic FTP System program upload page until the upload is complete. Simply open another browser window if you like to go surfing during a file upload.

Q: How do I (the Administrator) transfer one file to multiple user accounts in the FTP program?
A: The current program version 1.xx.x doesn’t support this task. We are working on a “shared folder” program update to achieve this task.

Q: Will Dynamic FTP run on my computer?
A: The Dynamic FTP System program is installed on a web server and anybody with an updated web browser and Internet access can use the Dynamic FTP System. There are no other programs to purchase or learn. It will run on Windows and Mac.

Q: What is a FTP program anyway?
A: FTP (File Transfer Protocol), a standard Internet protocol, is the simplest way to exchange files between computers on the Internet. Like the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), which transfers displayable Web pages and related files, and the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), which transfers e-mail, FTP is an application protocol that uses the Internet's TCP/IP protocols. FTP is commonly used to transfer Web page files from their creator to the computer that acts as their server for everyone on the Internet. It's also commonly used to download programs and other files to your computer from other servers.
